Just thought I'd share something a friend recently posted at his site.

It's about cognitive dissonance and the role it plays in the lives' of Witnesses and ex-Witnesses.

out of curiosity, i checked out the myjwspace site mentioned in an earlier thread to see if it was growing.
as of now, there are 64 members on the whole site, and a grand total of (all this) one post on the whole forum!
of course, without joining, there is no way to read those posts to cut and paste segments of it here to tear them apart.. they have a chat room where they claim all the people are jws, the topics are safe, and they can be themselves (as dull and preprogrammed as they can get).
So what's the UserID and password http://www.myjwspace.com? The site says:
UserID is the second scripture cited, located in the January 2006 Our Kingdom Ministry, Article, "Young People Who Are Shining as Illuminators" paragraph 1 & begins with "P", without the colon or commas and all lower case (ie: Phil 5:21 would be entered as phil521) |
Password is the 1st scripture referenced in that same paragraph, without the colon or commas and all lower case. (ie: Matt 16:5, 14 would be entered as matt16514) |
So...does anyone know what that would be?
there was a thread in the last six months wherein someone proposed giving a #3 talk that started out by having the householder show a clipping from a catholic newsletter.
this clipping gave warnings about researching other religions and talked about how only catholics have the truth.
after the talk-giver spoke for a few minutes about how wrong the catholic church was for saying these things, the householder then points out that it was really a clipping from a watchtower, just with a few bits of lingo changed.. does anyone know which thread this was?
That's a great idea. Don't forget to count that as a placement when you turn in your time at the end of the month.

Hey poppers, is your curiousity satisfied now?

Does anyone know which thread this was? Or how can I find it (the search option here leaves something to be desired)?
Thanks.
for most of my 30 years in the 'truth' (age 12-42 thereabouts) i have always doubted many many things taught from the watchtower.
however like many if not most of those brought up in it i got swallowed up in the whole social side of it.
bringing up children in it i told myself that it wasn't such a bad life after all.
Here's one instance of that exact line of reasoning:
"Most religions do teach that a person should not lie or steal, and so forth. But is that sufficient? Would you be happy to drink a glass of poisoned water becuase someone assured you that most of what you were gettting was water?" -Reasoning from the Scriptures, page 323
I told myself for years that the good was outweighing the bad. But as the years went by, more and more of my friends were deemed "bad association", and I was no longer able to communicate with them. Then a man in our congregation was reinstated after having been DF'd for child molestation. So I was not able to talk to one friend of mine bacause she was "unevenly yoked" and I couldn't talk to another friend because he outwardly said he didn't agree with everything the Society taught. Yet, I was able to talk to and spend time with a pedophile. Weird.
this has possibly been posted before (i hadn't seen it) - i found it a fascinating read - well done alanf for fronting it up..... it can also be found online at http://www.reexamine.org/wtobserver/apps/pbcs.dll/article86c8.html?aid=/20040309/history/204007.
interview with a watchtower society author on wednesday, 27 august 1997, i met with harry peloyan for about 1 1/2 hours in the lobby of the 25 columbia heights bethel office in brooklyn, new york.
my purpose was to discuss problems with the creation book with him, since he is its main author.

rita clement (far right) and jennifer difilippo lead the way while handing out pamphlets in gloucester township.
I like how in the bottom picture "Rita" has to put her hand in front of her skirt to maintain modesty. Good job, Rita. Too bad you can't wear pants.
hi... i'm a newbie here.
i have been associated with jw's for quite some time however there is one aspect of being a witness that i can't quite come to terms with that is the prohibition on celebrating a person's birthday i have of course read the arguments for this but find them somewhat unconvincing.
is it really the case that everyone follows this direction?
Molybdenum:
Yes, some secretly do ignore it. We (my wife and I) "secretly" celebrated my son's first birthday by giving him a cupcake (his very first taste of junk food), buying him a gift and taking his picture. Things started to get carried away, though, when he asked for the cupbearer's head on a platter. :)
the district conventions for '07 have commenced as of this weekend.
just wondering if anyone out there has any great stories to tell about it yet.
anyone know the new releases?
Highlander-Thanks for the link WTWizard-Yes, to my knowledge, the Conventions have begun only in the southern USA. A district convention was held this weekend at the Fort Lauderdale assembly hall in Florida.
